2018 was marked by daunting challenges around the world, from the political divides across Europe and the United States, as well as the pressing issue of global warming, but it was also a year in which people made powerful stands for equality and united in response to social injustice.
Additionally, there were many moments of celebration and inspiration: in May Prince Harry married US actress Meghan Markle at Windsor Castle, in July France won the FIFA World Cup in Moscow with a thrilling 4-2 win over Croatia and women were finally allowed to drive in Saudi Arabia.
The events of 2018 only serve to reinforce that “Life is a mixed bag no matter who you are”. Each year we encounter a combination of unpredictable blessings and successes, and along with those are unavoidable challenges. In this respect 2019 will probably be no different from the other years – but both the blessings and the challenges will be new and different.
Even on the cloudiest of days, the sun still shines. Difficult times test our patience, self-control and resilience.
With that in mind, I suggest that you approach the year with an open mind, curiosity and faith in yourself. It is through this process that you will discover the strength and wisdom within you.
I would also urge you to make time to nurture your soul, whether through meditation, yoga, prayer, or inspirational reading – whatever allows you to enjoy the present moment to the full.
May the New Year bring you abundant blessings, help broaden your horizons, and may you achieve at least one cherished goal.
