ASTD Club Evening: Tough Climate – Tough Personal Development

As HR professionals, we link learning to strategic goals. It is our responsibility to facilitate learning, coach and teach others how to make a difference.

But who are we forgetting?

Ourselves perhaps? Maybe we should be asking ourselves whether WE are the model of personal growth and development.

Find out at this interactive workshop facilitated by Claire Dickson, Executive Coach, HR Solutions, and Lucie Melicharova, Managing Director, Learn2grow, when they discuss personal development in tough times.

Rotary International (www.rotary.org)

What would it take to change the world? Rotary International is the world’s first service club organization, with more than 1.2 million members in 33,000 clubs worldwide. Rotary club members are volunteers who work locally, regionally, and internationally to combat hunger, improve health and sanitation, provide education and job training, promote peace, and eradicate polio under the motto Service Above Self.

The mission of Rotary International, a worldwide association of Rotary clubs, is to provide service to others, to promote high ethical standards, and to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through its fellowship of business, professional, and community leaders.

Members usually meet weekly for breakfast, lunch or dinner, which is a social event as well as an opportunity to organize work on their service goals.

This objective is further set against the “Rotarian four-way test”, used to see if a planned action is compatible with the Rotarian spirit. The test was developed by Rotarian and entrepreneur Herbert J. Taylor during the Great Depression as a set of guidelines for restoring faltering businesses and was adopted as the standard of ethics by Rotary in 1942. It is still seen as a standard for ethics in business management:

1.      Is it the truth?

2.      Is it fair to all concerned?

3.      Will it build good will and better friendships?

4.      Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

This month, the Rotary Club Prague international is organizing two charitable events which you are all welcome to attend;

Coaching Tip of the Month: Think, Believe, Dream and Dare

An eight-year-old boy approached an old man in front of a wishing well, looked up into his eyes, and asked: “I understand you’re a very wise man. I’d like to know the secret of life.”

The old man looked down at the youngster and replied: “I’ve thought about that a lot in my lifetime, and the secret can be summed up in four words.

The first is to Think. Think about the values you wish to live your life by.

The second is to Believe. Believe in yourself based on the thinking you’ve done about the values you’re going to live your life by.

The third is to Dream. Dream about the things that can be, based on your belief in yourself and the values you’re going to live by.

The last is to Dare. Dare to make your dreams become reality, based on your belief in yourself and your values.”

And with that, Walter E. Disney said to the little boy, “Think, Believe, Dream, and Dare.”
